How Lumina Design Works

A complete step-by-step workflow from floor plan upload to professional lighting design export.

01

Upload Your Floor Plan

Start by uploading your floor plan. Lumina accepts PNG, JPG, or PDF formats. PDFs are rendered with high quality (4x scaling) for precise detail.

  • Upload PNG, JPG, or PDF files
  • Automatic PDF rendering with PDF.js
  • High quality 4x scale rendering
  • Supports multiple floors

02

Draw Room Boundaries

Draw room boundaries directly on your floor plan. Set room dimensions using your preferred units (meters, millimeters, feet, or inches). Add ceiling height, false ceiling drop, and working plane height.

  • Click and drag to draw room boundaries
  • Set width and height manually
  • Choose units: m / mm / ft / in
  • Configure ceiling parameters
  • Set working plane height (0.75m default)

03

Select & Place Fixtures

Choose from our fixture library (6 types with multiple wattage options). Place fixtures on the canvas using click-to-place or drag-and-drop. The system snaps to grid for precise alignment.

  • Browse 6 fixture types with beam angles
  • Multiple wattage variants (3W–18W+)
  • Click to place, drag to position
  • Grid snap (500mm) for precision
  • Double-click to delete fixtures

Configure Settings

Set room properties like ceiling reflectance, wall reflectance, and floor reflectance. Configure per-fixture settings including dimming protocol and color temperature type. Set your target lux level.

  • Room reflectance (ceiling/wall/floor)
  • Per-fixture dimming protocol
  • Color temperature type (TW/RGB/DT8/ZC)
  • Target lux setting
  • Right-click context menu for quick access

View Real-Time Calculations

Lumina instantly calculates lux values using the IES Lumen Method. Heat maps show light distribution with a 6-stop color gradient. Status indicators tell you if your design is GOOD, OVERLIT, or UNDERLIT.

  • Real-time lux calculation on every change
  • IES Lumen Method with RCR & UF
  • Heat map visualization (0.5m grid)
  • 6-stop color gradient (blue→red)
  • Status: GOOD / OVERLIT / UNDERLIT / DIM

Automate DALI Design

Toggle DALI ON. Lumina automatically assigns DALI addresses, calculates bus load, generates driver schedules, and shows address badges on canvas. Select topology (DAISY/STAR/MIXED) for your installation.

  • One-click DALI automation toggle
  • Auto-assign addresses (D:1, D:2, ...)
  • Node limit selection (64 or 128)
  • Automatic bus creation & cable length
  • Driver schedule with mA output
  • SAFE / WARNING / FULL status indicator
